James 1:19-27 New Testament
"My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry."
This book was written by a brother of Jesus. Yes, he had siblings! He was not a believer when Jesus was alive but later.
The verse I chose speaks for itself.
LESSON James comes right to the point of how we need to behave towards others. He implies that patience and self-control are two vital behaviors we must practice. As a teacher, I would always tell my students to be good listeners. Listening is not just using our ears and hearing the sounds of the spoken word but using our brain to interpret what the listener is saying. To do this we must be patient and listen and let the other person speak. It also tells us that we should be slow to speak; in another words, think before you speak. That would take self-control and wisdom. It also says to be slow to anger. People have a right to be angry at times, but if you do the first two things and think about what you're gonna say, you won't blurt out words that you're not happy with later. Words can hurt people deeply.
The following sentence is FALSE . I used to hear it as a young person. "Sticks and stones will break your bones, but words will never hurt me.!" WRONG! Hurtful words can remain in your mind forever! 💕
