SCRIPTURES
John 14: 12-14
Mark 10:37-40 both New Testament
I gonna give this a title: SOMETIMES WE GET IT WRONG!
The Mark verse is, "Whatever you ask in my name, that I will do, that the father may be glorified in the Son." The disciples heard this in a sermon Jesus gave. What parents and teachers call "selective hearing," is that sometimes we only hear what we want to hear. James and John only remembered the first part, "ask and you shall receive ". (Paraphrased)
This brings us to the John passage. Wanting positions of greatness, they asked Jesus for them to sit left and right of his throne when in heaven. They remembered that all they had to do was ask and it would be granted to them. Jesus got very angry with them and asked if they could follow in his footsteps of being tortured and killed because that was what was going to happen shortly for Jesus. The second part of Mark's verse, "so that my Father in heaven may be glorified" was not remembered.
LESSON
Was their request going to glorify God? NO! It would glorify THEM, James and John! One must seek first the kingdom of God and glorify Him first! There's so much more here but I'm gonna leave it at that. 💕
