Part 3 of the Moses Story

SCRIPTURE

Exodus 14: 15-31 Old Testament

The Israelites were guided in the desert with a pillar of clouds by day and a pillar of fire at night.  Finally they came to the Red Sea, which they had to cross.  They stopped by the banks and camped, but were awakened one night by the thundering sound of the chasing Egyptians in hot pursuit. Now what? Are they trapped?

God told Moses to raise his arm holding his staff and the large, deep sea split into two giant walls of water leaving a dry path down the center. They raced through the center to the other side.  The Egyptians all attempted to cross as well but when they got to the middle of the two walls, Moses raised his arm again the sea went back to normal and all the Egyptians drowned!  Not one of them survived! Verse 31: "and when the Israelites saw the mighty hand of the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their faith and trust in him and in his servant Moses."

What does fear of the Lord mean?  It means deep respect, reverence and awe for God's power and authority, not being afraid in Him.

LESSON

Again, the lesson is trust in God! The presence of the fire and clouds represent God's presence.  He was there guiding and helping them the whole time day and night!
