STORY: 2 Samuel 6
This is another king David story from the Old Testament. It takes place in the book second Samuel chapter 6.
First you have to understand what the ark of the covenant was. It was like a big chest, highly and beautifully decorated in gold and with angels on it. The Israelites carried this chest with them when they were in the wilderness for 40 years after Moses had given them the 10 Commandments written in stone. The 10 Commandments were put inside this chest.
The ark was somewhere else. It was not with king David at first. He ordered it brought into his palace. When it arrived, he was so full of joy and happiness that he danced and the text says kicked up his heels. That's how it's translated . He was so happy to have this holy chest in his possession.
LESSON
God wants us to be joyful and happy. When we are happy, God delights in it and makes him happy too. So there are times when we need to show our happiness and our joy in our worship of God. Singing is one way, dancing is another and just praising God is another way.
