SCRIPTURE
Luke 10: 38-42. New Testament
This is an about two sisters, Mary and Martha who were very good friends of Jesus since childhood. One day Jesus and his disciples were visiting them. Jesus was talking to them around a dinner table. One of the sisters, Mary, was sitting at Jesus seat and listening very intently to what Jesus was talking about. The other sister, Martha, was in the kitchen busy busy , busy as a bee making snacks and refreshment for everybody. Martha was upset that her sister was not helping her in the kitchen. She was doing all the work. At that time, nobody in the room knew that Jesus would be arrested and crucified quite soon.
LESSON
Distractions are all around us. Martha was busy, making preparations and getting things ready for the guests , but missing out on what Jesus was teaching to everyone. Jesus called Martha out for being anxious and troubled on many things, but Mary was the one (in verse 41) who had chosen the better part.
There is nothing wrong with putting our faith into action like in yesterday's devotion. A person however, needs to have everything in life balanced. It is easy to get consumed by doing all the right things and feeling like we need to do works for the Lord. Like Mary, if we don't stop and take time to connect with Jesus, the works that we try to do for Him almost become meaningless. We don't always have to spend time trying to please. Jesus already loves us unconditionally. Once we do realize how much Jesus does love us, we can start to do the works for him out of love that he has for us. Put Jesus first. How? Develop a relationship with Him, pray, read the Bible or devotion, sit quietly for a few moments out of a busy day and listen to His voice. 💕
